Bathrooms Constructed from Recycled Materials

Lack of sanitation is a widespread problem, primarily due to poverty and a lack of available land. Many use a bucket to collect human waste and discard it in any open area adjacent to their homes. For both health and environmental reasons, 7 Elements partners with local families to build bathrooms, as an addition to an existing home, or as a latrine structure on the homeowner’s property.

For these projects, families contribute the cost of the toilet and plumbing pipes, and 7 Elements builds the structure, a septic tank, and finishes the plumbing, to provide a sanitary and private space for a toilet and bucket-bathing. With help from our student groups, our goal is to construct 10 new bottle bathrooms in 2019.
